Technology Summary and Contents

NOTE: We will be moving to a NGData image based on VDT shortly. At present pciback issues are being ironed out to enable fast data transfers which do not involve Xen's bridging interface.

Features for the non-VDT version:

  • Centos Linux 4.4
  • Globus Toolkit 4.0.3 providing a GridFTP server
  • gsi enabled OpenSSH?
  • kernel configured for high performance TCP transfers
  • data transfer testing tools

Install Instructions

The current version of the ngdata virtual machine is an RPM based installation based on the ng2 virtual machine.

NOTE: If you have an ngdata virtual machine not based on this RPM based installation you should start with a fresh install rather than trying to upgrade it.

  • Build the basic Xen guest using the procedure shown in XenInstall
  • Boot the machine and use scp to copy from another machine the rpm-based installation package for jdk1.5.0_xx where xx >= 08 (available at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
  • Install Java, then: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_xx
  • cd /etc/yum.repos.d
  • wget http://vpac.org/grid/files/vpac.repo
  • wget http://nf.apac.edu.au/grid/files/apacnf.repo
  • yum install ngdata
  • You will need to apply for and install APACGrid Certificates and make them accessible as indicated in Chapter 5 of the GT4 Admin Guide.
  • Install the EUGridPMA? certificates using the procedure show here
  • You should also run (in sequence) the scripts in /etc/cron.daily and /etc/cron.hourly to acquire current CRL and grid-mapfile entities.
