Summary

SGGC is a graphical multi-platform (Windows, OS-X, Linux) Java program for file transfers using GridFTP.

The original program is a Globus Incubator project. It has been extended to include additional functionality.

Original Features

Authentication via plain grid proxy or username/password login.

Operational modes:

  • Normal Client/Server transfer.
  • Parallel transfer (invoked when multiple files are sent.)
  • Striped transfer (multiple source, single destination.)
  • Resume broken transfer.
  • Third-party control of transfer between remote servers.

Support for regular FTP and GridFTP protocols.

Supports transfer between servers using different protocols.

Can provide a graphical representation of a transfer in progress.

Added Features

Grid authentication dialog now supports plain and VO proxies (via Proxy Light.)

Several interface enhancements, including a more conventional drag and drop paradigm.

Ant build script for creating an easily deployable jar file.

Downloads on Windows platform enabled.

Known issues

Platform:

Poor GTK support (particularly in older versions of the Linux JRE) results in some GUI elements being partially obscured.

Technical:

Better deployment method needed (eg Java Web Start.)

Has problems handling remote directories containing large numbers (several thousands) of files.

No unit tests.
